Reentry Law Enforcement Publications and Tools

Planning and Assessing a Law Enforcement Reentry Strategy

The Justice Center and PERF have developed a user-friendly toolkit to help law enforcement leaders and their partners analyze which aspects of their practices and policies are effective in addressing prisoner reentry and how they can improve upon their efforts. This toolkit, funded by the COPS Office, is currently under review.

Planning and Assessing a Law Enforcement Reentry Strategy Online Toolkit

Project staff are developing a interactive, web-based version of the toolkit, which will be available for practitioners to assess their own reentry initiative and identify ways to enhance current practices. The online version will draw its content from the print copy, but will include interactive functionality and provide immediate feedback that summarizes the user’s responses and identifies next steps. The online toolkit is expected to launch in the fall of 2008.

Law Enforcement Reentry Initiative: Learning Sites

The Justice Center and PERF will be selecting four law enforcement agencies from across the nation to participate in a project to improve the safe and successful transition of people from prison or jail to the community. Supported by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), this effort will focus on how jurisdictions address the large numbers of people leaving correctional facilities, to help prevent future crimes and strengthen vulnerable neighborhoods.
